Most the time 223 / 5.56 penetrate less drywall than either handguns or shotguns and is a very good choice for home defense. I wouldn’t use FMJ for home defense just because the other choices really are significantly better. 223 / 5.56 is a lot like 9mm and is very dependent on a good projectile
